Web 2.0 hype has been focused on capitalizing on individual user behavior within consumer oriented services. The real question remains how Web Applications will emerge and impact Enterprise software and services.
Red Herring’s interview with Rod Smith of IBM offers an interesting perspective:
As head of IBM Software Group’s emerging technology division, Rod Smith’s job is to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest technologies in Internet software.
Mr. Smith’s latest focus is on promoting “Do-It-Yourself IT,” a trend fueled by the popularity of blogs and wikis (web-collaboration tools). Also helping the trend is the growth in web services, which is making it easier for developers to create web sites with richer features such as “mash-ups,” or the blending of two applications, and RSS (really simple syndication) feeds.
