The 6 Killer Apps of Prosperity

Niall Ferguson identifies the 6 Killer Apps of Prosperity that drove the Great Divergence in wealth creation between the West and the East after 1800.

They include:

1. Competition

2. The Scientific Revolution

3. Property Rights

4. Modern Medicine

5. The Consumer Society

6. The Work Ethic

In essence, it came down to Ideas and Institutions.

So some questions come to mind:

  • What new Ideas and new Institutions will drive wealth creation in the next 100 years?
  • How might the "Ideas and Institutions" model be applied to creating wealth for companies and individuals?
  • Who (nations, business, individuals) are defining and implementing the new killer apps of prosperity for this century?
